When commissioning an aerial photography or video assignment there are a number of points that need to be given careful consideration, some of which are listed below. We will of course be happy to discuss these with you in detail so we can produce a flight plan that gives you the exact images you require at the keenest price.

Ultimate use of aerial images
This influences choice of format and equipment to be used. The more information and detail we can have at an early stage, the more accurately we can assess and cost your requirements.

Area of coverage and level of detail required
This has a direct effect on time taken to complete the survey.

Is the area covered by existing library material?
We can arrange a search of the numerous national and specialist aerial photographic libraries and report back findings to yourselves, prior to commissioning any additional survey work.

Deadlines and timescales
We are used to working to tight deadlines but an allowance needs to be made for a suitable weather window. Weather in the UK and Europe is one of the most important factors to be taken into account; poor visibility through cloud, smog or atmospheric haze will degrade the quality of any image!

Altitude
As we use AOC rated pilots and aircraft we can obtain special dispensation from the Civil Aviation Authority for low altitude flights over populated areas. We must obtain these dispensations prior to the flight, so adequate time must be allowed for.

Aircraft types and suitability
Single engine fixed wing - low cost and stable platform.
Single engine helicopter - Greater manoeuvrability and less obstructed field of view.
Twin engine helicopter - Less vibration, smoother ride, ideal for high quality video, essential over open water and large built up areas.

Does the proposed flight enter controlled or restricted airspace? Are any special CAA permissions required?
We will help you with these, we must obtain any dispensations or permissions prior to the flight, so again adequate time must be allowed for.

Time of year
Considerations that are affected by the time of year include, the length of shadows, the amount of foliage on trees and the length of flying day.
